L.O.L.D.S. SCHOOL GUIDELINES  

 

1.             LAND OF LEGEND DRIVING SCHOOL HAS A NO REFUND POLICY. There will be no refunds given if you fail to attend all class session or drive times.  PRE-REGISTRATION FOR CLASSES PREFERRED.

2.             Payment can be by cash, money order or credit card. If payment is made by personal check, we may hold the certificate until check clears the bank. The certificate of completion will not be issued until all fees are paid in full, this includes but not limited to the class fee, NSF, pickup and drop off, no-show/ cancellation fee for drive times. (NO PERSONAL CHECKS ACCEPTED FOR ADULT REMEDIAL AND JUVENILE DRIVER IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMS)

3.             TESTS: Required by the State of Ohio, Department of Public Safety.

a.    Must have a minimum passing grade of 75% (most tests are 50 questions)

b.    Test will not be taken until all class hours have been attended.

c.     No CHEATING or TALKING during the tests, this will result in automatic failure of test.

d.    Your final grade will be based on your performance and attitude.

4.             CLASSES: (break times are added to class schedule hours)

a.    For beginner teen classes, total class hours = 24 hours = 1440 minutes of instruction.

b.    For JDIP = 6 hours of class (usually on a Saturday 8am to 3pm)

c.     For Adult Remedial =8 hours of class (usually on a Saturday from 8am to 5pm)

d.    Break times are not included in instructional hours credited to students

e.    In-class participation is a significant part of this program.  We need your attention to make the learning process effective. We only have a set number of hours for in class room instruction and a lot of material to cover. We try to make the classes as informative and as much fun as possible.  There will be some serious moments, video times, lecture times, and occasionally a guest speaker.

f.       If you cannot attend a class, arrangements may be made for a makeup class on another day the same material is offered. You will need to make arrangements with the office to schedule the makeup class.

g.    Please dress comfortably and appropriately for a classroom situation

5.             DRIVES: Behind the Wheel Instruction *(BTW)

a.     No drives can be scheduled until class fee is paid in full, and students attended at least one class.

b.     Please arrive at least 5 to 10 minutes before schedule drive time

c.     For beginner teen drivers class, required 8 hours – completed in four 2 hour drives sessions.

d.    Be PREPARED to DRIVE, this includes having you valid permit in your possession, for 2007 and prior this means both the plastic picture ID, and validated paper portion of your permit.

e.    Students arriving for BTW appointment that appear to be in a decrease state of mind due to drug, alcohol, lack of sleep, in manner unfit to drive, will not be allowed to drive, this is at the instructors discretion.

f.       Students need to wear comfortable and appropriate clothing for a drive session

                                                              i.      NO loose fitting shoes – NO FLIP FLOP – SANDALS – etc.

                                                            ii.      HAIR out of face,

                                                          iii.      SUNGLASSES are permitted, based on the brightness of the day.

g.    CANCELLATION FEE MAY APPLY ($25.00 minimum)

                                                              i.      For any missed appointments, (no shows / no call)

                                                            ii.      For any appointments without a minimum of 24 hours notice.

                                                          iii.      For any appointment the student arrives not prepared (as described above).

                                                         iv.      NO CERTIFICATES OF COMPLETION WILL BE ISSUED UNTIL ALL FEES ARE PAID.

h.    This drive session is a minimum of two hours allow 5-15 minutes time to sign in, prepare for lesson, and for instructor to talk to parents after at least one of the drives session

i.        You schedule your drives based on the availability of times on our drive schedules, therefore they are your responsibility to remember the date and times of drives. Feel free to call the office if not sure of your scheduled drives. It is your responsibility to be here on time and ready to drive.

j.        We ask if you need to miss a schedule drive call us at least 24 hours in advance so we can schedule some one else for that time slot and or inform the instructor of the change in schedule. We understand emergencies and weather circumstances are beyond our control and yours.  Fee waiver is at the discretion of the management, please call the office as soon as you know you can not make a drive time, we have an answering machine and voice mail.  We try to call you the day before to remind you of all drives. They are your responsibility to remember and complete all drive times.

6.             TARDIES: not permitted – no early dismissals – ALL INSTRUCTION WILL MEET STATE OF OHIO MINIMUMS (1 hour credit for each 60 minutes of instruction attended)

a.    No one will be permitted to arrive late and/or leave early and still receive credit for the time.

b.    Any time missed will need to be completed before certificate of completion is issued by our office.

c.     NO TARDIES – NO EARLY DISMISSALS – for all class and BTW sessions.

7.             DISRUPTIVE STUDENTS: You are here to learn about being a safe driver. Students will be expected to act in a mature manor.  Disruptive students will be asked to leave and no refunds will be given. 

a.    NO CELL PHONES

b.     NO PROFANE LANGUAGE

c.      NO SLEEPING IN CLASS

8.             INSTRUCTORS: are certified by the State of Ohio, Department of Public Safety.

a.    Respect your instructor

b.    Class participation and interaction is encouraged and expected

c.     No ARGUING, we can voice our opinions, and agree to disagree, we will do our best to provide information based on the Digest of Motor Vehicle Laws, and other sources.

d.    It is very important to listen to the instructor, and the videos are educational films.

e.    We want to provide you with information to be safe and courteous drivers

9.             ALCOHOL AND TOBACCO PROHIBITTED:

a.    NO SMOKING, ALCOHOL, or DRUGS permitted on premises.

b.    If you are using these items, we ask you not to. We stress to you how harmful these items are to you and the people that care about you.

c.     We require you not to bring these items on our property or into our school.

d.     Not following this requirement will result in you being asked to leave with no refunds given

10.       PROPERTY:

a.    Please respect the school property.  Destruction of school property is prohibited.

b.    Charges to cover damages or replacement of property will apply.

c.     Any theft or damage will result in additional monetary charges and possible criminal charges.

d.    No certificate of completion will be issued if such charges applied are paid in full.

11.       SCHOOL PHONES and COMPUTERS

a.    The school computers and phones are for business use only.

b.    The use of school computers and phones for personal use by students is not permitted.

c.     EXCEPTIONS for EMERGENCIES, ask school personnel permission to use phone.

12.       PRIVACY POLICY: any information collected is for school use only.

13.       INTERRUPTION POLICY: some things are beyond our control, for example: if the electric goes out, we will do our best, be patient for service to return, after a few minutes, class may be dismissed and a makeup session will be scheduled.

14.       GREIVANCE POLICY: we can discuss any problems you have with any staff member.

a.    First – talk to the instructor

b.    Second – request a to talk with management

c.    Third – when all else fails contact the Ohio Department of Public Safety

15.       RESTROOM:

a.    Have respect for others; help keep it clean, if any problems contact school staff.

b.    Feel free to use the restrooms when needed,  you do not have to ask permission

c.     Please leave and return to classroom in a quiet manner,

d.     You are here to learn, please do what you need to do and return to class promptly.

e.    Excessive use, and leaving the classroom during instruction periods, may result in you being asked to call parent, leave and attend another class to make up session.

16.       SNACKS AND DRINKS: (some snacks and drinks are available for purchase)

a.    At the instructors discretion, will be permitted during class sessions. (not BTW)

b.    Students are expected to clean up after themselves,

c.     TRASH and RECYCLE BINS are accessible in the classroom.

Attendees must follow the above guidelines.  By not following these guidelines, you may be asked to leave without refund. You may be asked to read and sign similar guidelines prior to attending class.
